Musculoskeletal Screening
Musculoskeletal screen is essentially a battery of tests that a client is taken through in order to identify any particular areas of concern that may indicate an increased risk of injury. Combined with an appropriate regimen of management strategies that are undertaken on the basis of this assessment, the evidence demonstrates clearly that we can significantly reduce both the incidence and severity of injuries that occur. That’s right – even if you get hurt after undertaking a screen and an appropriate PEP (Prevent Injury, Enhance Performance) regimen – you will experience less time away from your normal life, suffer less, and be back to your best sooner!
IN GENERAL, THE MUSCULOSKELETAL SCREEN WILL INCLUDE A NUMBER OF TESTS TO GIVE US AN IDEA OF:
- Muscular strength and endurance
- Cardiovascular endurance
- Range of Movement
- Joint Stability
- Areas of tenderness or pain
- Functional Movement Quality/Capacity
SUCH SCREENS ARE NOT FOR THE REALM OF SPORTING TEAMS ONLY, HOWEVER. THEY CAN ALSO BE EXTREMELY USEFUL IN ANY OF THE FOLLOWING GROUPS:
- Individual athletes
- Entire sporting teams
- Work fitness tests
- Individuals about to embark on a weight loss/fitness regimen
- Individuals with a history of recurrent injuries
